Magnus Moan

Magnus Moan Hovdal ( born August 26, 1983 in Lillehammer ) is a Norwegian nordic combined.

Career

Moan made ​​his international debut in December 2001 in the B- Nordic Combined World Cup. He missed in Mobakken the points clearly. In January Moan launched at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2002 Junior Schonach. After Rank 25 in single, he won with the team the bronze medal in the team mass start. In December 2002, the Norwegian won with a second and a third place in Steamboat Springs his first two podium finishes in the B World Cup.

On 1 January 2003 in Oberhof Moan gave his debut in the World Cup Nordic Combined. But He missed there as well as in Ramsau am Dachstein and the World Cup in Chaux-Neuve - scoring points. In the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2003 in Sollefteå he won the silver medal with the team, but missed in the individual disciplines again well a medal. Back in B- World Cup he won the individual race in Trondheim as well as with the team the team competition in Stryn.

For the season 2003/ 04 Moan started again in the A- squad and already scored in the season opener in Kuusamo back into the points. In Trondheim, he surprised the competition with fifth place. On 2 January 2004, he reached his first Weltcuop victory in Reit im Winkl. It was at first his only victory. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 in Oberstdorf Moan presented his strength for the first time at a major tournament to prove. After a good fourth place in the individual competition he won the gold medal with the team. Another medal he secured the second place in the sprint. At season's end, he won his second World Cup in Oslo. Another victory he secured for 2005/06 season in Ramsau am Dachstein. In Oberhof and Schonach he was also on the podium in third.

In his first Olympic Winter Games in Turin in 2006, he won behind the German Georg Hettich and Felix Gottwald bronze in singles and silver in the sprint. In team competition, he did not go to the start. Back in the World Cup he won safely the race in Lahti. The season he finished on the second place in the overall World Cup standings. Also in the Summer Grand Prix started Moan first time in 2006 and successfully won by rank three in Bischofshofen the team competition in Berchtesgaden. In the season 2006/ 07 Moan start successfully. He won the World Cup in Lillehammer and a little later the Hurricane sprint in Ramsau am Dachstein.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo Moan won silver in the sprint after the bronze medal in the team competition. After another mixed results to the end of the season he finished the World Cup winter to third in the overall World Cup standings. The following year he was unable to build on this success and came to streaky individual results at the end of the 2007/ 08 only to ninth overall.

For the 2008/09 season came Moan quickly in the world's best at. He won in Trondheim, Oberhof, in Val di Fiemme, as well as in Whistler and Chaux -Neuve. However, he could not repeat this performance in the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec. Only in the team competition, he was able to secure a bronze medal. In the World Cup he again succeeded towards the end of the season, the victory in Lahti, so that it eventually for the second time in 2005/ 06 reached the second place in the overall World Cup standings.

As a result, once again missed a constancy in its good results. In the 2009/10 season he reached again into third place in the World Cup overall standings. At the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010, he remained without a medal for the first time. Even with the team he did not come in fifth addition. The Summer Grand Prix 2010 ended Moan after two wins in Oberwiesenthal and third place in Oberstdorf on the second place overall.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo, he won with the Norwegian team in both team competitions the bronze medal. At the beginning of the season 2011/12 Moan succeeded after almost two years in Lillehammer again a victory at a single World Cup. Also in Ramsau he was successful. In Schonach he won the team World Cup with the Norwegian team.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme, he missed again an individual medal. Only in the team competition on the normal hill, he won silver in the team. After Moan landed the 2013/14 season back in the world rankings and with two exceptions only reached top- 10 finishes, he got a place at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. After fifth of the normal hill, he secured the individual on the large hill the silver medal. In team competition, he celebrated together with Håvard Klementsen, Magnus Krog and Jørgen Grabak his first Olympic gold medal.
