Marc Bergevin

Marc Bergevin ( born August 11, 1965 in Montreal, Quebec ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and current - functionary. In his playing career as a defender, he completed almost 1200 games in the National Hockey League and was available for eight different teams on the ice. He currently serves as general manager of the Canadiens de Montréal in the NHL.

Career

As a player

Bergevin grew up in Montréal Area Pointe -Saint -Charles and played during his youth on for clubs in his hometown. For the 1982/83 season the defender moved to the Sagueneens de Chicoutimi in the highest junior league Québec, the LHJMQ before 1983, the National Hockey League was selected in the third round by the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL Entry Draft. For this, he completed the game year 1984/85 his rookie season and stood in 60 games on the ice.

After five seasons in Chicago Blackhawks Bergevin came to the New York Islanders from where he proved to be a good template donor in his first season with a personal record of NHL 13 assists. In the following season, however, he was unable to repeat this performance and was after 18 games on the farm team of the Islanders, who made Springfield Indians of the American Hockey League. With these he was able in 1989/90 to win the Calder Cup straight away, the title in the AHL. 1990/91 changed Bergevin then the Hartford Whalers, but at first could not prevail there. Instead, he played again with the Indians, who were also changed as a farm team of the Islanders to the Whalers. With the AHL team, he won the Calder Cup for the second time before the next season again was able to establish himself in the NHL. He scored in the 1991/92 season a total of 24 points, which represented the best value so far in his NHL career. Nevertheless, the defender was transferred in 1992 to the Tampa Bay Lightning and used there in the following seasons in almost all games. At the 1994 World Cup, he was appointed as a defender in the squad of the Canadian national team and won with the team with a 2-1 final victory after penalty shootout the world title.

In 1995, Bergevin to the Detroit Red Wings in the Western Conference, with which, however, he retired after winning the Presidents' Trophy in the playoffs for the Stanley Cup on the penultimate lap. In the regular season he showed with a plus / minus-rating of 7 his best in the NHL. For next season, however, came from Detroit him again and he moved to the St. Louis Blues. This season he was at all the games his team on the ice. However, the Blues eliminated in the first round of the playoffs against the Detroit Red Wings, who also were able to secure the Stanley Cup later. In the next year his team failed again to the Red Wings, this time in the second round of the playoffs. In the 1999/2000 season he reached with a plus / minus score of 27 the eight best percentage in the league and won with the Blues his second Presidents' Trophy. In the playoffs, but they were knocked out in the first round.

After four years in the St. Louis Blues Bergevin transferred in 2000 to Pittsburgh, where he joined the Pittsburgh Penguins. After a season in which he completed 36 games, however, he moved back to St. Louis. During the season 2001/ 02 he was, however, used only in 30 games and finally delivered to the farm team of the Blues, the Worcester IceCats in the AHL. Thus, he moved again in 2002 to the Penguins, but still charges him the same year at the Tampa Bay Lightning. There he completed only one game before it a third time came to Pittsburgh in 2003. After 52 games for the Penguins in the 2003/04 season he was transferred to the Vancouver Canucks during the season, where in the first round of the playoffs, he finished his playing career after leaving the team.

As a functionary

After the lockout in the 2004/05 season and whose failure Marc Bergevin from the season 2005/ 06 was employed as a functionary at his former club Chicago Blackhawks. There he first worked as a talent scout, before he acted as an assistant coach Joel Quenneville of the 2008/ 09 season. From 2009 to 2011 he was employed in the club as Personnel Director and finally joined the 2011/12 season to the post of Assistant General Manager for the Blackhawks.

After seven seasons in Chicago Bergevin was presented on 2 May 2012 as the new general manager of the Canadiens de Montréal, after he had been dismissed during the season Pierre Gauthier from this post.
