Marián Gáborík

Marián Gáborík ( born February 14, 1982 in Trenčín, Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak ice hockey player who is since March 2014 with the Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Gáborík began his career in his birthplace at HC Dukla Trenčín. In the 1995/96 season he made his debut at the age of 14 years in the Junior Extraliga for his hometown club. The following season he scored 71 points scorer in 52 games this season for his junior team and had a plus / minus value of 58 excellent statistics on. In the 1997/98 season, he first played on for the juniors of Dukla, where he scored 91 points scorer in 47 season games. These performances prompted the head coach of the first team, Jaroslav Walter to let Gáborík debut in the Extraliga. In his first professional game, he scored a goal.

After he / completed for the juniors in season 1998 99 nine games, Gáborík received a place in the first team of his club, reaching with this, the playoff quarterfinals in which this was subject to HKm Zvolen with 0-3 victories. Although he was only 17 years old, Gáborík quickly established itself in the Extraliga and was in the following season one of the leading players of his team - with 46 scorer points from 50 games of the regular season, he was behind Lubomir Hurtaj second best scorer of Dukla Trenčín. Due to the benefits shown he belonged before the NHL Entry Draft 2000 on the most promising candidates to be selected in the first round. Ultimately, he was elected the Minnesota Wild from the third position.

Minnesota Wild (2000-2009)

In July 2000 Gáborík received a rookie contract term of three years, which earned him a year 1.075 million dollar plus bonuses. He was thus the highest-paid rookie ever in the NHL. On 6 October 2000, the Slovak played his first NHL game in the match against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and scored the first goal for the newly formed franchise of the Minnesota Wild. The 18- year-old left shooter was the youngest player in the NHL history, who scored the first goal for an expansion team of the National Hockey League. His rookie season he finished with 36 points from 71 matches. Ten games missed due to injury Gáborík. In his second season with the Wild, the attacker reached the mark of 30 goals this season. On 13 November 2001 he managed a hat trick in his first game against the Atlanta Thrashers. In February 2002 he took part as a rookie in the NHL Young Stars game in which two teams selection of the best rookies competed against each other. In this game, he was successful with a goal and two assists and was named after the second-best player of the match. Around a month later, he was elected as the first player in the franchise history to player of the week in the NHL after Gáborík had scored seven goals in four games.

In the season 2002/ 03 Gáborík led the game by 30 goals, including three hat-tricks and 35 assists for the first time in the playoffs, where they reached the final of the Western Conference. After victories against the Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks of the Slovak lost with the game in the next round in four games against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. In the playoffs, he was again the most successful scorer of the team and recorded 17 points. In the course of the season he was also a participant in the NHL All-Star Game and represented the team in the Western Conference. In the game itself the offensive player was successful with three points. He had previously won the Super Skills Competition competition for the fastest skater. With the end of the 2002/03 season, his contract ran out with the game and at first, the two parties could not agree on a contract extension. Therefore Gáborík began the following season with his hometown club in the Slovak Extraliga. Only in October 2003, he extended his contract with the Minnesota Wild, who was endowed to three years and over 10 million U.S. dollars plus bonuses.

The strike season 2004/ 05 he spent in Europe, where he played for his local club Dukla Trenčín and in Sweden, the Färjestad BK. In the 2005/06 season with 38 goals this season Gáborík turned to a franchise record he surpassed himself two years later. On 25 November 2005, he scored in his 300th NHL game the 100th goal. In July 2006 he extended his contract with the Minnesota Wild to three years. This contract included a significant increase in salary and the attacker, who was previously the top earners in the game, received a total of 19 million U.S. dollars for three years.

On 20 December 2007 Gáborík scored the first player since Mario Lemieux in the 1995/96 season five goals in the regular season a game during a 6-3 victory over the Minnesota Wild New York Rangers. In March 2008, he was first appointed for a month to the Team Captain.

With the start of the 2008/09 season began contract negotiations between Gáborík and the game, as his contract expired in the summer of 2009. The maximum bid the wild included a ten -year contract for 80 million U.S. dollars. This offer he refused. In October 2008, he was injured in the groin and underwent a hip operation in January 2009. Therefore, he completed until end of season only 17 games for the Wild, in which he collected 23 points scorer.

Since the parties could not agree on an extension, his contract ran out at the end of the season. He left the Wild after eight seasons as a franchise scorer, record assist provider and scorer.

New York Rangers (2009-2013)

In the summer of 2009 Gáborík was a so-called Unrestricted Free Agent. On the first day of the exchange period, July 1, 2009, he signed against all press speculation a five-year contract with the New York Rangers. Overall, this contract was doped to 37.5 million U.S. dollars.

In the first ten games for his new club, he scored twelve goals. In October 2009 Gáborík suffered a knee injury that he had sustained in a collision with Petr Průcha of the Phoenix Coyotes. Although his club to the playoffs in 2010 did not reach, it was overall a successful first season with the Rangers for Gáborík. He completed 76 games in which he scored 42 goals and totaled 86 points scorer. 9 January 2011 he scored four goals and one assist in the 7-0 victory for the Rangers over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Columbus Blue Jackets and Los Angeles Kings (since 2013)

For the Trade Deadline on April 3, 2013, was transferred to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Overall, he completed due to multiple injuries, only 34 games for the Blue Jackets before they charges him in the following year again. On March 5, 2014 Gáborík moved to the Trade Deadline to the Los Angeles Kings, Matt Frattin for the, transferred a second-round and third-round choice right after Columbus.

Internationally

Marián Gáborík began early in his career to represent his country internationally. He took part in the U20 Junior and U18 World Youth Championship 1999, where he won the bronze medal each. In addition, he was selected for the U18 World Cup in the All- Star team and awarded as the best striker. The following season he again took part in the U18 and U20 World Championships.

From 2001 Gáborík belonged at irregular intervals in the Slovak National Cadre Men's World Championships, where he failed to win a medal until today ( 2011). At the World Championships 2007 he was awarded with five goals and six assists his team's leading scorer and was on the end of the tournament as the best player of his team. He also participated with the national team at the Olympic Winter Games in 2006 and 2010, where they finished fifth and fourth place.
