Paesana

Paesana ( Piedmontese Paisan -a, Paisana Occitan ) is a municipality with 2837 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Cuneo (CN ), Region Piedmont. It is located at the headwaters of the Po, about 50 km southwest of Turin.

She is a member of Mountain Community Comunità Montana Valli Po, Bronda e Infernotto, which was expanded in 2008 to the Comunità Montana Valli Po, Bronda, Infernotto e Varaita since 2006. Paesana is a centrally located place of the seat of the Local Government Association.

Geography

The village lies at an altitude of 650 m above sea level in the middle of the Po Valley, about 20 km before the mountain valley opens into the Po Valley. The originating within the Cozie Alps Po flows past the southern edge and has a relatively broad valley floor here exceptionally.

Through the valley - here across the river in the district Erasca - runs the Strada Statale 662 (SS 622 or " Via Valle Po " ) that leads to the western mountains and to the east over Saluzzo to Turin.

The municipality covers an area of 58 km ².

The neighboring municipalities are Barge, Oncino, Ostana Sampeyre and Sanfront.

History

Paesana existed at least since the Middle Ages but was in World War II (?) Partially destroyed. The parish church of Santa Margherita is mentioned in writing in 1386. It has a Romanesque campanile and was renovated in the Baroque style.
