Réchicourt-le-Château

Réchicourt -le- Château ( German Rixingen ) is a commune of 600 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Sarrebourg and is capital of the canton Réchicourt -le- Château. The municipality is located in the Regional Natural Park of Lorraine.

Geography

The community Réchicourt -le- Château is located in the southeast corner of the department of Moselle. To the northwest is the Etang de Réchicourt ( Rixinger pond ). The difference in level of 16 m between this and the higher-lying Etang de Gondrexange is overcome by a single lock. To the northeast on the border with neighboring community Gondrexange the Col des Français is located ( French Pass).

History

The place was first mentioned in 770 as Richisi curtis, then Ruchesingen in 1179 year. The village was to 1661 German, then came to France, in 1871 and again in 1919 German French again. In the period 1939-1945 it was under the German administration again and then again the French. It is surrounded by vast forests.

To place belongs Rixingen Castle, a building from the 15th century, which acquired its current appearance in the Renaissance style in the 16th century and was the seat of the Counts of Leiningen.
