Rolf Gölz

Rolf Golz ( born September 30, 1962 in Bad shot Ried ) is a retired German racing cyclist.

Life

Growing up is Goelz in Bad shot Ried in Upper Swabia. He won in his amateur time 1983 World Cup with the German train of four and won in 1984 in Los Angeles, a silver and a bronze medal in the 4000 meters One or Team Pursuit. Due to its powerful driving Goelz was named by many colleagues "Turbo".

In his pro from 1985 to 1993, he was one of the few German road riders with international importance. Goelz it specializes mainly on classical one-day races. His first major international success was winning the Zuri pig roast 1987. Thereafter, he became the respective first German the La Flèche Wallonne in 1988, Paris -Brussels in 1988, and Milan -Turin (1988 and 1989 ), as well as the first non - Spaniard ever 1988 Vuelta a Asturias. The Tour de France he could win in 1987 and 1988 respectively a stage victory. Also, get him overall victory in the Ruta del Sol (1985, 1987) and in the Mediterranean Tour 1992.

After his cycling career Goelz finished a degree in business administration and worked as sports director at Team Gerolsteiner. He also served as a co- commentator for Tour-de -France transmissions for ZDF and published in 2003 a book about classic one day races ( classic myth ). 1994-1999 he sat for the Free Voters in the council of Bad Schussenried.

He runs a bike shop in Bad Waldsee.
