Tolmezzo

Tolmezzo ( Tumieç Friulian, German Tolmein, Slovenian Tolmeč, latin Tulmetium; outdated Schönfeld ) is a city on the river Tagliamento, Friuli with 10,560 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012). The urban area covers 65.69 km ² and is located 323 m above sea level. NN. Tolmezzo is the capital of the historical region of Carnia.

History

Since around 1000 AD Tolmezzo was owned by the Patriarch of Aquileia. 1258 was the church by Patriarch Gregorio da Montelongo market rights for the whole of Carnia. 1275 gave Patriarch Raimondo della Torre of the municipality the municipal law.

At the beginning of the 17th century, the area around Tolmezzo was German. It was in 1609 a separate district court, which reached up to the present-day Austrian border. This district court was one of the early 17th century, the influence area of Venice.

During this time there was both familiar relations with the Greater Munich and economic relations there.
