Traunstein (district)

The district of Traunstein is in the southeast of the district of Upper Bavaria and is the second largest county by area in Bavaria. It belongs to the Euregio Salzburg - Berchtesgaden - Traunstein.

Geography

At Traunstein bordered to the north, the counties Mühldorf and Altötting, in the east, the Austrian states of Upper Austria and Salzburg, as well as the Upper Bavarian district of Berchtesgaden, in the south once the province of Salzburg and the Tyrol and in the west the district of Rosenheim on.

The circular area covers the south of the Chiemgau Alps and in the north the lake, river and hills of the Chiemgau region. From the southernmost county Reit im Winkl to Engelberg in the north is approximately 65 kilometers from Seebruck am Chiemsee in the west to the east Kirchanschöring around 40 kilometers. The Chiemsee heard except the islands almost entirely to the circle area. The highest elevation is the Sonntagshorn ( 1,961 m), the deepest point is found in the Salzach valley in Tittmoning (370 m. Above sea level. M. ). The largest rivers are the Alz, which springs from the lake Chiemsee in the north and the north county area flows in the direction Inn, the right tributary, the Traun, which flows through the county territory from south to north, and the Tiroler Achen, the southwestern district area until their estuary flows into Lake Chiemsee. In the east the Salzach forms the border with Austria.

History

The county includes, but is the eastern part of the Chiemgau region, which has long been both the Bavarian dukes and the Prince Archbishops of Salzburg connected.

In Bavaria, created in 1802, the district courts. They were responsible for administration and jurisdiction. In the area of present-day district of Traunstein, there was the district courts Traunstein mountain and comfort as well as from 1810 running and Tittmoning. They belonged to the Salzach short circuit and came in 1816 to the Isar circle, which was renamed in 1838 in Upper Bavaria.

1862 saw the establishment of the district office Traunstein that administratively the district court districts of Traunstein mountain and comfort included. The district courts running and Tittmoning formed the district office running. 1876, the town of Traunstein was an Immediate City and retired from the district office of Traunstein.

In 1939, the districts were renamed districts and county offices in district offices. 1940, the county- town of Traunstein was incorporated into the district of Traunstein, but this was reversed in 1948.

As part of local government reform in Bavaria in 1972 the district of Traunstein, the majority of the county skiing was incorporated ( with the centers of the Rupertiwinkels Waging and Tittmoning ), three municipalities of the district Mühldorf and the previously independent city of Traunstein. The town of Traunstein received the status of a district town in compensation for the loss of freedom circle. The rest of the district came running to the county Berchtesgaden, Tyrlaching the north by the Altötting.

Population Development

The district of Traunstein won 1988-2008 approximately 23,000 residents added or increased by around 16%.

Economy and infrastructure

Agriculture, industry and trade, services and tourism are the main pillars of the economy in the district. Industrial centers are the north of Traunstein situated cities Traunreut and consolation mountain while tourism is more often found in the south of the county. In July 2011, the unemployment rate in the district was 2.7%, much lower than the national average.

Traffic

In 1860, the leading Traunstein section Rosenheim and Salzburg was opened in the Bavarian Maximilian web. A few decades later were built by the city of Traunstein several local railways of the Bavarian State Railway in the area:

Another main line connects since 1894/1908 Mühldorf and Freilassing. From it branched into Wiesmühl from 1894 a branch line to the city on the Salzach River from Tittmoning.

On the mainline Rosenheim -Salzburg also 1908 and 1885, the local railways Endorf Obing and overseas Marquartstein were connected.

The built during the Second World War rail freight Hörpolding Traunreut few years went well passenger trains. Since 10 December 2006, the regional trains of SüdostBayernBahn go 6-21 clock in the approximate hour between Traunstein and Traunreut.

A peculiar feature is the narrow-gauge forest railway State Ruhpolding - Reit im Winkl, but it was only a few years in operation.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of the district of Traunstein shows on its left half of a blue panther on a silver background. It is the coat of arms of the Counts of Spanheim that dominated the Chiemgau in the 12th century. The right upper half of the coat of arms shows a black eagle on a golden background rotbewehrten: the coat of arms of the former Diocese of Lake Chiemsee. The lower right half shows on a red background a white castle and a green tree - the coat of arms of the monastery Baumburg - and represents the northern part of the county.
