1947 BAA draft

The BAA - 1947 Draft was the first draft of the BAA, which was later merged with the NBL to NBA. Therefore, the draft is also considered the first draft of the NBA. On 1 July 1947, the Draft in Detroit was performed. The college players were distributed to 10 teams. The players were distributed in the reverse order of the final standings the previous season to the team and the new team of Baltimore received the 10th pick.

The first pick, Clifton McNeely, did not play in the NBA but was coach at a high school in Texas. Walt Dropo, the fourth pick, also did not play in the BAA, but afterwards played for 13 seasons in the MLB. Three players from this year, Harry Gallatin, Andy Phillip and Jim Pollard, were included in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
