The 1983 NBA Draft was conducted on June 28, 1983 in New York City. Overall, there were ten rounds. The first round consisted of 24 picks. The Cleveland Cavaliers were given a further choice as compensation for the getradeten against Ted Stepien draft picks.
In the first position, Ralph Sampson was selected by the Houston Rockets.
For this vintage was Clyde Drexler, who was also used for the Dream Team during the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, inducted into the Hall of Fame. Doc Rivers and Byron Scott ran successful coach careers and were once each coach of the year in the NBA.
