Arsita

Arsita is a municipality with 854 inhabitants and is located near Castiglione Messer Raimondo Bisenti and in the province of Teramo. A part of the territory of the municipality lies within the boundaries of the National Park of Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga. The town is a member of the Comunità Montana del Vomano, Fino e Piomba.

Geography

Among the districts ( fractions) are Cacciafumo, Collemesolo, Figliolarsita, Pantane and Valleiannina.

Borders the following municipalities: Bisenti, Castel del Monte, Castelli, Farindola and penne.

The municipality is situated approximately 30 km from the capital of the province, the city of Teramo and 44 km from the Adriatic coast.

History

The origins of the church date back to pre-Roman times, as evidenced by the archaeological finds in 1985. There were tombs and jewelery found from the Bronze Age. The settlement was first mentioned in the 13th century. In the 16th century, the church of Santa Maria d' Aragona was built, in which is located inside the building a representation of a Madonna with a child. The ceramics were restored in the early 20th century.
