Capetian House of Anjou

The (older) House of Anjou was a side branch of the family of the Capetians. It originates from Karl Stephan of France ( * 1226, † 1285), a younger brother of King Louis IX. (* 1215, † 1270), which this 1246, among other things, the county Anjou handed.

Since succeeded Karl, turn off the Hohenstaufen in southern Italy on behalf of the Pope, he became the progenitor of a dynasty in the Kingdom of Naples, which was occasionally also in possession of the Kingdom of Hungary and the Kingdom of Poland:

  • King of Naples 1266-1435
  • King of Sicily 1266-1282
  • King of Jerusalem 1266-1435
  • King of Croatia, Dalmatia and Rama 1301-1386/1395
  • King of Hungary 1308-1386/1395
  • King of Poland 1370-1386/1399

As the extinction was likely in the male line, was twice ( 1380 and 1423 ) tried to inherit the southern Italian and southern French possession of the family through adoption. In both cases the current Dukes of Anjou ( Anjou Junior House ), a collateral branch of the Capetian branch of Valois, the beneficiaries, in both cases, they came not by military force for the course.
