Carlos Berlocq

Carlos Alberto Berlocq ( born February 3, 1983 in Chascomús, Buenos Aires Province) is an Argentine tennis player.

Life and career

To 2004: The first successes in Futures tournaments

Carlos Berlocq started at the age of four years playing tennis. Since 2000, he played on Futures tournaments in South America, and there could soon win first matches. In 2001, he reached his first final in Bolivia.

In June 2002 Berlocq had a series of successes: Within a month he won 18 of 19 matches and a total of three Futures tournaments in Mexico and Chile. Due to this, he rose in the tennis world ranking in the Top 400, and was now playing Challenger tournaments on the ATP Tour.

Since he here but initially could not prevail, he played in the second half of 2003 again Futures tournaments, and had again a tremendous success rate: In six tournaments in succession he always reached at least the semi-finals, and won three tournaments. In 2004 he reached six Futures finals in a row, one of which he won three. In August 2004, he then for the first time was able to reach a Challenger final, which he lost against Giovanni Lapentti in Manta.

2005-2006: Challenger title, entry into the Top 100 and Grand Slam debut

Less than a year later in May 2005 won Carlos Berlocq in Turin his first Challenger title. There he stood now in the top 200 in the world rankings, he played now only Challenger tournaments, and also tried to qualify for ATP Tournaments. This, he succeeded in July 2005 in Stuttgart, but he lost in the first round against Răzvan Sabău. Thanks to its placement Carlos Berlocq was directly qualified in January 2006 for the Australian Open; However, he lost in four tight sets against Bjorn Phau. In the following months he played several ATP tournaments, but it could reach the second round only three out of thirteen tournaments. 2007-2009: First ATP semi-final, injury and comeback

At the beginning of 2007 Berlocq could for the first time reached an ATP quarterfinal in Viña del Mar. He defeated the former French Open champion Gastón Gaudio first time a player from the top 50 in the world rankings. Berlocq itself rose after a Challenger title in Barletta back into the Top 100, and was thus directly qualified for the French Open 2007. 2012: First ATP singles final and entry into the Top 50

Early 2012 was Carlos Berlocq by a victory over qualifier Jesse Huta Galung first to reach the second round of the Australian Open, where he retired against Ivo Karlović. In the following clay tournament in Vina del Mar Berlocq achieved inter alia through a three-set victory over his set at position 2 compatriot Juan Ignacio Chela for the first time the finals of an ATP tournament. Carlos Berlocq in 2012 was first appointed to the Argentine Davis Cup team when Argentina met in the semifinals to the Czech Republic.
