Flag of Ivory Coast

The flag of the Ivory Coast was officially launched on 3 December 1959.

Description

The national flag consists of three equal vertical stripes: left orange, white in the middle and right green.

Best known is this color interpretation: Orange stands for the savannah in the north, green for the forests of the southern coastal areas, while white is to symbolize the unity between north and south.

On the website of the President, the following statement was: " Orange is the color of the country, rich and generous, the meaning of our struggle, the blood fighting for its liberation of a young people. White stands for peace, peace with justice. Green stands for hope and the certainty of a better future. "

A third explanation is as follows: Orange for the spirit of national development, white for peace and purity, and green for hope for the future thanks to the exploitation of natural resources.

As a tricolor it is modeled on the flag of France, the former colonial power. The same model has the flag of Ireland, which uses the colors of Ivory Coast mirrored. Another difference are the different proportions. Ireland's flag has an aspect ratio of 1:2.

The three stripes are intended to symbolize unity, discipline and work.
