Flag of Togo

The flag of Togo was due to a flag competition. The winner Paul Ahyi (1930-2010) and another compatriot deliberately chose the pan-African colors. The flag was officially hoisted on April 27, 1960.

Description

Green stands for hope and agriculture of the country, yellow symbolizes the mining and faith in the work as a material, moral and spiritual progress of the nation and red is the color of love, loyalty and love. The white star symbolizes the purity and all citizens should remember that they proved the independence of their nation as worthy.

The five stripes are comparable with five fingers on one hand, collective energy of the people of Togo to overcome the current obstacles. The changing colors also represent the diversity of the Togolese people who live together in unity.

It is the only national flag that is used in their aspect ratio of the golden section.

History

During the German colonial period was planned for all colonies to introduce its own flag. The idea was not implemented. Between 1956 and 1960, Togo became an autonomous republic was under French rule. This was symbolized by the French tricolor in the naval jack. The two stars in white or yellow stood for French Togo and British Togoland. In 1958, the tricolor was removed from the flag.
