Méziré

Méziré ( formerly Miserach German ) is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Méziré is located on 340 m above sea level, about nine kilometers east-northeast of the city of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the lowlands of the Burgundian Gate, on the eastern edge of the basin of Montbéliard, at the edge of the valley of the Allan and on the western edge of the plateau of the Bois de la Voivre.

The area of ​​3.91 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the weakly in relief landscape in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The western boundary runs along the Allan, which flows in a great arc through the valley west to the Doubs. This valley has a width of more than one kilometer. It is also the waterways of the Rhine- Rhone Canal. From the river, the municipality's area extends eastward across the alluvial plain and the slope of Méziré up in the vast forest area of the Bois de la Voivre, occupying the northern edge of the Jura Plateau areas. To Méziré the settlement La Vacherie (340 m) is on the southern outskirts. Neighboring communities of Méziré are Bourogne in the north, Morvillars in the east, and Badevel Fesches -le- Châtel in the south and Allenjoie in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Méziré in 1317. Middle of the 14th century came the village under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. It belonged to the rule Morvillars, which was owned by the La Bassinière family later. Together with the Sundgau Méziré came with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Attractions

The village chapel Saint- Étienne was created in an old farmhouse. Among the cultural monuments of the industrial history include the old forge (18th century) and Villa La Vieille Maison ( 19th century).

Population

With 1404 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Méziré one of the smaller communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. Economy and infrastructure

Méziré developed early in a characteristically industrial community. Larger industrial and commercial zones are located along the Allaine on the border with Morvillars.
