Pentti Kokkonen

Pentti Juhani Kokkonen (* December 15 1955 in Jämsä ) is a former Finnish ski jumper. He jumped for the association of the city of Lahti, Lahti the Hiihtoseura.

His first try at an international jumping he had on December 30, 1976 at the Four Hills Tournament. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1978 in his hometown of Lahti, he was fifth on the normal hill. In the winter of 1978/79 he won after victories in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen and two third places in Garmisch -Partenkirchen and Oberstdorf Rating 27 Four Hills Tournament. Because of the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup was introduced the following year and Kokkonen in his career could not win a further victory, he can not place a World Cup victory.

In the following years he was one of the extended world peak, reaching up to end of his career after the winter 1985/86 occasionally podiums. His biggest success he could achieve in the 1980s with the US-led Matti Nykänen Finnish team. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1982 in Oslo, he won the team bronze medal, 1984 in Engelberg and 1985 in Seefeld in Tirol then gold.

Since 2004, Kokkonen is the coach of the Finnish junior team.
