Schalunen was until December 31, 2013 municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. On 1 January 2014 merged with the former municipalities Schalunen Büren, Etzelkofen, Count Ried, Limpach, Mülchi and Zauggenried for Township woman fountain.

Geography

Schalunen is located at 500 m above sea level. Level, 10 km north- west of the town of Burgdorf, and 11 km south of Solothurn ( straight line ). The village is located on a terrace in the extreme northeast of Rapperswil plateau, at the edge of the flood plain of the river Emme, on the Swiss Plateau.

The area of ​​1.4 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the central Bernese Mittelland. The central part of the municipality is occupied by the hill of Schalunen, one running from south to north ridge on the western edge of the Emmeebene. At the height at Bishop is 510 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Schalunen. Population

With 407 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Schalunen one of the small communities of the Canton of Bern. Of the residents 95.1 % are German, 0.6 % French-speaking and 0.6 % speak Italian ( as of 2000). The population of Schalunen amounted in 1850 to 135 residents in 1900 to 121 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population fluctuated constantly in the range of 120 190 people. Since 1970 (138 inhabitants), a rapid increase in population was associated with almost a tripling of the population recorded in 30 years.

Policy

The voting shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: SVP 42.2 %, 20.7 % BDP, SP 14.3 %, 7.0 % GPS, FDP 5.7 %, 4.6 % glp, EPP 2.1 %, CVP 1.6 %, EDU 0.2 %.

Economy

Schalunen was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available, including a mechanical workshop and in an operation of horticulture. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the larger towns in the area as well as in the agglomeration of Berne and Solothurn in the room.

Traffic

The community is conveniently comparatively quite well developed. It lies on the old main road from Bern to Solothurn. The nearest links to the A1 ( Bern- Zurich ) is located about 8 km from the town center. On April 10, 1916, the section Zollikofen -Solothurn, which is now operated by the public transport company regional Bern-Solothurn, was taken with a train station in Schalunen in operation.

History

The municipal area of Schalunen a gold bracelet from the La Tène period in 1864 while plowing of a field found. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1249 under the name Chaluna. Later, the names Schalune ( 1321 ) published, Schalunen ( 1361 ) and Tschalunen ( 1420 ). The etymology of the name is obscure.

As of 1406 stood Schalunen under Bernese domination. Across the present municipality was then a frontier: The southern part of the village belonged to the Cistercian nun wells and after its secularization in 1528 the bailiwick wife fountain in the district court Zollikofen. In contrast, subordinate to the northern part of the court Bätterkinden in the bailiwick of Landshut. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ), both parts Schalunens belonged during the Helvetic Republic to the district Zollikofen and from 1803 to Oberamt Mrs. Fountain, received the status of an office district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831. Schalunen does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Limpach ( protestant) and parish Utzenstorf ( Catholic).
