Steinbrunn-le-Haut

Steinbrunn -le -Haut ( German Oberstein Brunn ) is an Alsatian village with 579 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin. It belongs to the district Mulhouse, on the Canton Sierentz and community association Pays de Sierentz.

Geography

The community Steinbrunn -le-Haut is located in Sundgau, about twelve kilometers south of Mulhouse.

Of the 921 hectares that includes the municipality, is used for agriculture about 600. About 150 acres are forested.

Neighboring communities of Steinbrunn -le-Haut are Steinbrunn -le- Bas in the northeast, Rantzwiller in the east, election creek in the south, Obermorschwiller in the southwest, and Luemschwiller in the west and Zillisheim in the northwest.

The Church in Stone Brunn -le-Haut with asymmetrically arranged choir and nave, is dedicated to St Maurice and the Mother of God of the Scapular. For Baroque decoration of the church are stone figures on both sides of the side door and the side altars, the main altar with a tabernacle from 1687, the winged altar from 1530 and a dated at 1626 baptismal font.

On the south side of the church adjoining part of the cemetery there is a small chapel with two grave slabs from the 16th century. A plate shows the eight arms of the families Reinach, cancer of Mülheim, wrath of Bulach, Degelin of cheeks, Payer of Hagenwyl, Falkenstein, from Andlau and Pforr, another stone shows a crawling Hirsch, the arms of the Knights family of Hirtzbach that of 1274 proved to 1477.

A special feature is the sundial with the date 1866 on the south side of the nave dar.

Some half-timbered houses from centuries past have been preserved.
