Turania

Turania is a municipality with 236 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the province of Rieti in the Italian region of Lazio.

Geography

Turania is located 73 km northeast of Rome and 50 km southeast of Rieti. It is situated above the valley of the Turano in the Sabine mountains.

The municipality covers an altitude difference of 540-975 meters above sea level. Turania is a member of the Comunità Montana del Turano.

The municipality is located in the seismic zone 2 (medium endangered).

The neighboring municipalities are Carsoli (AQ ), Collalto Sabino, Collegiove, Pozzaglia Sabina and Vivaro Romano (RM ).

Traffic

Turania is located 11 km away from the motorway exit Carsoli on the A24 Autostrada dei Parchi.

The nearest train station is also located in Carsoli on the railway line Rome - Avezzano, 9 km away.

History

The community was called until 1950 Petescia and then after the river, which they renamed crosses.

Petescia 890 was mentioned for the first time.
