Zuzwil, Bern

Zuzwil is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Zuzwil is on 565 m above sea level. Level, 12 km north of the capital of the canton of Bern ( straight line ). The scattered village stretches along scenic location in a more open south trough high on the slopes of Lerchenberges, in the eastern part of the plateau Rapperswil, the Swiss Plateau.

The area of ​​3.5 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the gently undulating landscape of the central Bernese Mittelland. Population

With 578 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Zuzwil one of the small communities of the Canton of Bern. Of the residents 97.1 % are German, 1.3 % French-speaking and 0.6 % speak English (as of 2000). Economy

Zuzwil was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by agriculture village. Even today, the farming, fruit growing and animal husbandry and dairying have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In recent decades, the village has developed thanks to its attractive location into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the agglomeration of Bern.

Traffic

The community is located off of the larger passage axes at a connecting road from Münchenbuchsee after Mülchi. The nearest links to the motorway A6 ( Bern -Biel ) is located about 5 km from the center. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1261 under the name Zuzwiler. Later, the names Zuzewile ( 1279 ) published, Zutzwilr (1302 ) and Zutzewile ( 1315). The place name could have possibly formed by the agglutination of the preposition. It is therefore uncertain whether he goes back to the persons name Uzo or Zuzo.

By its first mention Zuzwil came to the Knights of Schüpfen. Since the 14th century, both the Knights of St. John in Münchenbuchsee and the Cistercian nun wells had rich land in the village. In 1406 came the sovereignty over the territory of Bern, and Zuzwil was assigned to the district court Zollikofen. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ), the village belonged to the district during the Helvetic Zollikofen and from 1803 to Oberamt Mrs. Fountain, received the status of an office district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831.

Attractions

In the old village are characteristic farmhouses in the Bernese country style have been preserved from the 17th to 19th centuries. Zuzwil does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Jegenstorf - Urtenen.
