Gigney
Gigney is a commune with 60 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vosges in Lorraine. It belongs to the district Epinal, in the canton of Châtel- sur -Moselle, and since 2012 the Association of Municipalities Agglomà d' Epinal.
Geography
The community Gigney than twelve kilometers north- west of the center of Epinal, capital ( chef-lieu ) of the department of Vosges.
The five -square-mile municipality of Gigney comprises a bottom portion of the Ruisseau de l' Etang, a left tributary of the Avière and the westward gently sloping landscape, which is broken down by the valleys of the streams Ruisseau de Corb, Ruisseau le Trimbolot, and Ruisseau du Jaunay. The streams originate in the municipality of Gigney and drained by the Ruisseau de l' Etang and the Avière the Moselle. The western boundary of the municipality forms the boundary to the catchment area of Madon.
On the wooded heights around the 469 -meter-high vantage point Croix de Virine Gigney has a share of about 50 ha further 30 ha of forest are located east of the Ruisseau de l' Etang. However, arable land accounts for the largest share of the community area.
Center of the 60 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) counted the village is the church of Saint- Médard, which is surrounded by an oval cemetery. Church and cemetery are also used by the neighboring community Fomerey.
Neighboring communities of Gigney are Mazeley in the north, Domèvre -sur- Avière in the east, the south and Fomerey Bocquegney in the West.

Culture and sights
The church of Saint -Médard from the early 14th century can with some objects that have been classified as a monument historique, come up. These include a red, velvet chasuble from the 18th century, the altar and a statue of the Virgin from the early 16th century and a chalice, which dates from the monastery Étival. As historic monuments further up to 400 years old crosses were named in the cemetery.

Economy and infrastructure
Agriculture plays in very original acting Gigney still the main role. The village has not been "discovered" because of the relative seclusion as a place of residence for city dwellers around.

By Gigney the Territory road 36 leads from Mazeley after Darnieulles where connection is made to the partial two-lane national highway 166 from Epinal to Vittel / Neufchâteau.
