Igney (Vosges)

Igney is a commune with 1166 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vosges in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Epinal, in the canton of Châtel- sur -Moselle, and since 2012 the Local Government Association Agglomà d' Epinal.

Geography

Igney is located on the upper Moselle, ten kilometers north of Epinal, capital ( chef-lieu ) for the district of the same name.

To 7.66 km ² large municipality Igney is an approximately 30 ha comprehensive pond area on the right side of a Mosel loop, the vast majority extends from the left bank of the Moselle to the wooded hills west of the village, which tower above the river bed of the River Moselle by almost 80 meters. Links of the Moselle runs parallel to the Canal des Vosges with two of his total of 93 locks on the field Igneys.

The layers in the Moselle valley is agricultural land or are dominated by residential and commercial areas. The proportion of forest in the municipality amounts to about 40%.

Neighboring communities of Igney are Nomexy in the north, Vaxoncourt in the east, Thaon- les -Vosges in the south, southwest, and Frizon Oncourt in the west.

History

Remains of a Roman road towards Bois de la Héronnière, a wooded area west of Igney, suggest an early settlement.

For the 10th century, the existence of a parish has survived, who moved the tithe to the monastery Remiremont. Igney belonged to the French Revolution to the dominion of Mitry family, an old noble family of Lorraine.

Near the beginning of 1814 Igney raged a battle of the Wars of Liberation, which could decide against a Cossack army for the French.

From the end of the 19th century, it remained as the entire upper Moselle valley in Igney the textile industry with a weaving and a spinning feeder. The climax of the number of employees was reached in the 1960s with 600. With the closure of the company Boussac unemployment rose in Igney and it came to increased emigration. In the following decades gradually a new economic structure could be built.

Economy and infrastructure

Transport links

In Nomexy the Territory road branches off from 41 (after Sanchey ) of the Department Straße 157, which runs along the left bank of the Moselle. The two-lane national highway 57 from Nancy to Epinal proceeds at a junction by the municipality of Igney. The breakpoint Igney lies on the Moselle valley following the railway line Nancy- Epinal - Remiremont, which is operated by the Company TER Lorraine.
