Harol

Harol is a commune with 587 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vosges in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Epinal, to Canton Dompaire and the Local Government Association ( Communauté de communes ) Secteur de Dompaire.

4.1 Road Access

Geography

The community Harol is on the gently rolling plateau of Voge, about 20 kilometers west of Epinal in the south of Lorraine. A special feature is the watershed of the North Sea -Mediterranean, which runs right through the 27.34 km ² comprehensive municipal area. Harol consists of several villages and hamlets. While the district of La Rue is on Illon which drains about Madon and Moselle to the Rhine, flowing rainfall in the districts Harol, Le Menil and Puttegney as well as the hamlets Frison, La Fosse, Le Fleuriot and Saucenot on the Ruisseau de Reblangotte, Coney and Saône from the Rhône. The district Longeroye between the sources of Illon and Reblangotte ultimately lies exactly on the watershed. The formerly separate villages Harol, Longeroye and Le Menil have now grown into a nearly continuous, long settlement.

The height differences in the municipal area are small and occur only in the north of the municipality more apparent. The largest part of the community area consists of agricultural land. Only at the municipal boundaries to the west and south ( Forêt du Ban d' Harol ), the municipality has shares in forest areas, which together make up about 15 % of the total area.

Neighboring communities Harol are Damas -et- Bettegney in the north, Dommartin- aux- Bois in the east, Charmois - l'Orgueilleux in the south, Escles in the southwest and Ville- sur- Illon in the West.

History

The village Harol was first mentioned in 1070 as Haros. It was later the center of the extended ban Harol ( Ban d' Harol ). Although the area was in the area of influence of the diocese of Toul, but was proven since 1235 by the Chapter in Remiremont dependent.

The church of Saint - Èvre was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War and rebuilt in 1765 in the characteristic of the 18th century in the south of Lorraine shape with a large nave.

After the French Revolution, the village belonged to the canton Escles first, then to Canton Darney, finally, since 1833 the canton Dompaire.

Harol able to maintain its position as the second largest of the 30 municipalities of the canton Dompaire in the past 40 years, despite fluctuations.

Attractions

The church of Saint - Evre with a sandstone statue of the Virgin Mary and Child was based on a ridge in place Harol built and is visible from the south.

Economy and infrastructure

The inhabitants are in agriculture ( farming, husbandry, bee-keeping ) and employed in small service trade and craft businesses. However, the largest employer in the community is Fournier SA. The company, founded in 1953 is engaged in the metal and a supplier to the automotive industry, the printing industry, aerospace, paper industry and for the air-conditioning systems and machine tool manufacture.

In Harol located with the vocational school of rural areas " La Providence " ( lycée professionnel rural " La Providence " d' Harol ) the only one of its kind in Greater Alsace and Lorraine. It focuses on service workers in rural areas, elderly care, health, social services and child care.

Transport links

In the community Harol the Department streets 4 ( Mirecourt -Bains- les- Bains ) and 460 ( Epinal Darney ) intersect. Five kilometers east of Harol runs the Canal des Vosges.
