Pouxeux

Pouxeux is a commune with 2003 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) in the department of Vosges in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Epinal, in the canton of Remiremont and the Local Government Association, Voge vers les Rives de la Moselle.

Geography

Pouxeux is located halfway between the cities of Epinal and Remiremont in the southeast of Lorraine.

The territory of Pouxeux extends from the valley on the left bank of the upper Moselle, which is up to 800 meters wide here, except for a 200 meters higher -lying plateau rising in a distinctive stage in the southwest. On the Pouxeux side of the river flows with a Vologne in the south of the Vosges ridge springing, 50 km long tributary of the Moselle. History

The nucleus of the village Pouxeux was comprised of several fishing and farming houses on the banks of the Moselle under the spell of Arches. The first recorded name of the place is Pexeï. About Poucheu and Pouxeu he slowly developed into Pouxeux.

In the Thirty Years' War Pouxeux was like the whole upper Moselle valley strongly affected. 1655 broke after a quartering of soldiers from the plague.
