Gorhey

Gorhey is a commune with 173 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vosges in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Epinal, to Canton Dompaire and the Local Government Association ( Communauté de communes ) Secteur de Dompaire.

Geography

The small community Gorhey located 13 kilometers west of Epinal in the center of the department of Vosges.

By 6.31 km ² large municipality flows about 15 kilometers long, Gitte, a narrow tributary of Madon. That in the local area 400 meters wide Gittetal turns from the south to the northwest. It is flanked on the west by slopes, which lead to an up to 400 meters high-altitude plateau. The built-up settlement area is located in north-south direction in the gentle rising ground on the right of the lattice. The largest part of the community area consists of agricultural land. Only in the south-west and east, the municipality has shares in forest areas, which together comprise about 100 ha.

Immediately southeast of Gorhey runs the apex of the canal des Vosges, the Rhine and Rhone overcomes separating main European watershed here.

Neighboring communities of Gorhey are Hennecourt in the north, Darnieulles in the east, in the southeast Chaumousey, Dommartin- aux- Bois in the south and Damas -et- Bettegney in the northwest.

History

The village was first mentioned in 1144 as Gorhey Guoherei and part of the ban of Bouxières -aux -Bois.

Built in the 12th century church Saunt Paul belonged to the deanery Jorxey in the Diocese of Saint- Dié, later the pastoral care was subordinate to the chapter in Remiremont.

In the period between 1780-1790 the Town Hall ( Mairie ) and the school were built.

The inhabitants of the originally acting farming village Gorhey are in the six local farms employed ( farming, dairy farming ) or commute to the commercial areas of the surrounding area.

Gorhey is accessible via road links from all neighboring municipalities from. Two kilometers north of the community, the partially -developed two-lane expressway from Epinal to Vittel runs / Contrexévillenear.
