1987–88 Soviet League season
The season 1987 /88 Wysschaja League was the 42nd season of the highest Soviet Hockey League. The Soviet league title secured CSKA Moscow for a total of 31 times while Ischstal Izhevsk and Torpedo Ust- Kamenogorsk descended to the second division.
Mode
The 14 teams in the league Wysschaja first played in a common main round in return game against any opponent, bringing the total number of matches per team was 26.
Then the ten best teams in the main round played in the final round in return game against each other. The four best teams in the final round qualified for the first time since the founding of the Soviet Hockey League discharged playoffs, in which the Master was played.
The four last placed the main round met in the relegation to the six best second division. All teams contested in the relegation each 36 games. The top four teams played in the following season in the league Wysschaja, the other six teams in the second-rate Perwaja league.
For a win, each team was given two points, a draw there was a point and a defeat.
