1986–87 Soviet League season

The 1986/87 season the Wysschaja League was the 41st season of the highest Soviet Hockey League. The Soviet league title secured for a total of 30 times CSKA Moscow, while Ufa Salavat Yulaev relegation to the second division.

Mode

The twelve teams in the league Wysschaja first played in a common main round in return game against any opponent, bringing the total number of matches per team was 22.

Then the ten best teams in the main round played in the final round in return game against each other, the results of the main draws were taken. The point- best team in the final round was finally Soviet masters.

The two last placed the main round met in the relegation to the six best second division. All the teams in the relegation denied a total of 28 games. The top two teams played in the following season in the league Wysschaja, the two following took part in relegation matches against the two last placed the final round part and the other four teams remaining and alighted at the second-rate Perwaja league.

For a win, each team was given two points, a draw there was a point and a defeat.
