Adoniram J. Holmes

Adoniram Judson Holmes ( born March 2, 1842 in Wooster, Ohio; † January 21, 1902 in Clarinda, Iowa ) was an American politician. Between 1883 and 1889 he represented the state of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1853, Holmes moved with his parents to Palmyra, Wisconsin. There he attended the public schools and the Milton College. In 1862 he interrupted his schooling to participate as a soldier of the Union Army in the Civil War. After the war he continued his education at Milton College. After a subsequent law studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and its made ​​in 1868 admitted to the bar, he began practicing in his new profession in Boone (Iowa).

Politically, Holmes member of the Republican Party. Between 1880 and 1881 he was mayor of Boone; in the years 1882 and 1883 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Iowa. In 1882 he was in the then newly created tenth electoral district of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he met on March 4, 1883 at its new mandate. After two re- election he was able to complete in 1889 three contiguous legislatures in Congress until March 3. In 1888, he was not nominated by his party for another term.

During the next legislative session in Congress Holmes practiced from the ceremonial office of the Sergeant at Arms of the House of Representatives. Otherwise, he again worked as a lawyer in Boone. Between 1896 and 1899 he was district attorney. Adoniram Holmes died on January 21, 1902 in Clarinda and was buried in Boone.
