Augustus Hall

Augustus Hall ( born April 29, 1814 Batavia, Genesee County, New York, † February 1, 1861 in Bellevue, Nebraska ) was an American politician. Between 1855 and 1857 he represented the state of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Augustus Hall attended the public schools of his home. After a subsequent study of law and its made ​​in 1836 admitted to the bar, he began practicing in his new profession in Mount Vernon (Ohio ). In 1839, Hall was appointed Deputy U.S. Marshal; 1840 to 1842 he was district attorney in Union County, Ohio. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1844 he moved to Keosauqua, Iowa.

In the congressional elections of 1854 Hall was the first electoral district of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Bernhart Henn on March 4, 1855. As he defeated Republican Samuel Curtis already at the next election in 1856, he was able to complete up to March 3, 1857 only one term in Congress, which was overshadowed by the tensions prior to the Civil War.

In 1858, Hall of U.S. President James Buchanan to the presiding judge ( Chief Justice ) was appointed to the Supreme Court in the Nebraska Territory. This office he held until his death on February 1, 1861 in Bellevue.
