Lucien Lester Ainsworth

Lucien Lester Ainsworth ( born June 21, 1831 in New Woodstock, Madison County, New York, † April 19, 1902 in West Union, Iowa ) was an American politician. Between 1875 and 1877 he represented the state of Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Lucien Ainsworth attended the common schools and the Oneida Conference Seminary at Cazenovia (New York). After a subsequent study of law and its made ​​in 1854 admitted to the bar he began in Belvidere (Illinois ) to work in his new profession. In 1855 he moved to West Union, Iowa, where he also practiced law. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1860 and 1862 Ainsworth sat in the Senate of Iowa.

During the Civil War he was a soldier in the Union army, but was used mainly in the west against the Indians. Then he returned to West Union and continued his legal practice. Between 1871 and 1873 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Iowa. In 1874, he was the third election district of the state in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Republican William G. Donnan on March 4, 1875. Rejecting a bid again in 1876, Ainsworth was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1877.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Lucien Ainsworth retired from politics. He again worked as a lawyer and died on April 19, 1902 in West Union, where he was also buried.
