The nuclear power plant Arkansas One ( english Arkansas Nuclear One, short ANO ) is a nuclear power plant with two pressurized water reactors. Unit 1 was built by Babcock and Wilcox and Unit 2 Combustion Engineering. The nuclear power plant is located in Russellville in the U.S. state of Arkansas.

History

The two reactors were built since 1968. Block 1 was on August 17, 1974, block 2 on December 26, 1978 to the network.

Block 1

The reactor of Unit 1 comes from Babcock & Wilcox. To cool the Lake Dardanelle used.

The operation given license for Block 1 originally ran until 19 May 2014. 2000 A completed application for renewal of the operating license by 20 years was approved by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC ) approved on 20 June 2001, thus the license runs until 19 Mai 2034th

Block 2

The reactor of Unit 2 comes from Combustion Engineering. Block 2 has a cooling tower.

The operation given license for Block 2 originally ran until August 17, 2018. 2003 A completed application for renewal of the operating license by 20 years was approved by the NRC on 30 June 2005, so the license will expire until August 17, 2038.

Incidents

On March 31, 2013, came to a fatal accident caused by the failure of a crane during the audit. As a result, the load of the crane, the generator of Unit 1 was in the accident and one person was killed and eight others were injured. Both units were from the mains. According to the operator and authorities for the public there was no danger.

Unit 2 went on April 29, the grid again.

On August 8, Block 1 was full again at the net.

On the morning of December 9, 2013, explosion and fire fighting were reported at the site of the nuclear power plant. A transformer at Unit 2 had caught fire. The corresponding block was then switched off. The operating company classified the incident as an Unusual Event, which is equivalent to a fault below the INES scale.
