Björn Kuipers

Björn Kuipers ( born March 28, 1973 in Oldenzaal ) is a Dutch football referee.

Career

The father of Bjorn Kuipers was also football referee. On March 5, 2005 Kuipers debuted as a referee in the Eredivisie at the game against Vitesse Willem II Tilburg. Since 2006 he is on the FIFA list of referees and may conduct international matches since then. Since January 2009, Kuipers is one of the elite referee the UEFA, thus it can be used for the management of particularly controversial games.

In the U -21 Football Championship in 2009, he led the final, in which Germany won 4-0 against England. The final of the UEFA Super Cup 2011 match between FC Barcelona and FC Porto at the Stade Louis II in Monaco, he headed also.

On 20 December 2011, UEFA announced that Kuipers has been nominated as one of the twelve referees who will lead the games in the European Football Championship 2012.

On May 15, 2013 Kuipers conducted the final of the UEFA Europa League in Amsterdam between Benfica and Chelsea. In 2013 Björn Kuipers was at the Confederations Cup in Brazil as one of ten arbitrators in use.

Kuipers is a businessman. He studied Public Administration at the Radboud University Nijmegen.
