Duppach

Duppach in the volcanic Eifel is a municipality in the volcanic Eifel region of Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Gerolstein.

Geography

The Duppacher district lies at an altitude between 400 and 600 meters above sea level, with the town itself is in a Talmunde to 460 meters above sea level. To the municipality of living space belongs Weier mill. The cities Hillesheim and Gerolstein are 10 km away. Until the town of Prüm is 13 km away.

History

During archaeological excavations from 2002 in the district Weier mill remains of a Roman villa, as well as two large grave monuments were found. Through the Friends of Duppach Archaeological Association ( founded in 2003 ), the excavations continued at irregular intervals. Excavation director is Peter Henrich.

As part of Rhineland-Palatinate, functional and territorial reform Duppach was reclassified along with 14 other communities on 7 November 1970 by the same resolution Prüm district in the county down (since 2007 County Volcanic Eifel ).

Structures

The current cemetery chapel dates back to the year 1330 and is one of the oldest churches in the Eifel. 1926 the greater St. Hubert Church was built, because the old building was no longer large enough for the parish. After the war, today is only the chancel of the church from the 14th century. This is used as a cemetery chapel.

In the 1950s, a large German electronics group was in the Adenauer Duppacher Forest Villa, a retirement home for former Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, build. After the press had reported in 1955 about this corruption case, the work was stopped on the finished shell immediately. Since then, the ruin is in Duppacher forest.

Sauerbrunnen

Approximately 1000 meters outside the village there is a mineral spring ( in the Eifel, Drees called ), where the inhabitants of the place can fill mineral water in bottles brought up. The source is rich in iron and minerals. Moreover, the water is rich in carbon dioxide, which is typical of the Eifel as a former volcanic region.
