Kerschenbach

Kerschenbach is a municipality in the volcanic Eifel region of Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Upper Kyll whose administrative headquarters is in Juenkerath.

History

The place was first mentioned at the beginning of the 14th century as part of the rule Kronenburg documented. From the mid-14th century Kerschenbach belonged to the court Stadtkyll and therefore to the local court. Ecclesiastical belonged Kerschenbach likewise until the 18th century the parish of Kronenburg. Around 1790 came to the parish Kerschenbach Stadtkyll.

As part of Rhineland-Palatinate, functional and territorial reform Kerschenbach was reclassified along with 14 other communities on 7 November 1970 by the same resolution Prüm district in the county down (since 2007 County Volcanic Eifel ).

Coat of arms

The coat of arms description reads: "Under a golden head of the shield, is a red zigzag bar, split into red by silver wave bar, front erect a golden sword, behind a golden ear. "

The red zigzag bars on a golden background in chief points to the previous affiliation of the village to the county Gerolstein. The Manderscheid - Gerolsteiner Count led the red zigzag bars on gold in their coat of arms. The silver wave bar that splits the crest, indicates the Kerschenbach who gave the place its name. The golden sword stands for the Holy Luzia, who died by the sword as a martyr for her faith and is patron of the place and the chapel in Kerschenbach. At the same time, the sword also points to the medieval high court in Kerschenbach nor the corridor designation " On Court " reminds of that. The golden ear of corn symbolizes the rural character of the community and agriculture as a basis for many centuries for the people of Kerschenbach.
