Kiev Oblast

The Kiev Oblast (Ukrainian Київська область / Kyjiwska oblast, Russian Киевская область / Kievskaya oblast ) is a region ( oblast) in northern Ukraine. It has an area of ​​28,131 km ² and approximately 1.73 million inhabitants (2014 without Kiev). The administration of the oblast is based in Kiev, although Kiev is an independent national entity. The oblast consists of 25 municipalities ( Rajon ). The largest rivers are the Dnieper, the Pripyat, and the Ros.

Among the most important cities include not only the capital Kiev Bila Tserkva, Boryspil, Brovary and Fastiw. In the oblast there are also historically significant places Perejaslav -Khmelnytskyi, Trypillja and Bilohorodka. In the north of the oblast are the cities of Chernobyl and Pripyat, who were evacuated as a result of the disaster at the nuclear power plant. The northern areas of the oblast are contaminated to some extent radioactive.

History

The oblast was established in the great municipal reform on 27 February 1932 previously existed in the area since 1923 several okrugs, which in turn were to 1920 in the government of Kiev.

Geography

Climate

The climate in the region is characteristic of the Polissja and the forest-steppe. There is moderate continental with relatively mild winters and warm summers. Temperatures range from -6.1 in January to 19.2 degrees in July.

Vegetation

Certainly exceptional, compared to the other oblasts, the great lakes landscape with its dams and rivers of the Dnieper.

On the right bank of the Dnieper River are smaller mountains and slopes. The entire area is surrounded by a continuous belt of green and forest. The green area is 43,600 hectares. The green of the region is characterized by 250 different varieties of trees and shrubs, including the well-known Kiev chestnut and poplar.
