KÅ“tzingue

Kœtzingue ( German Kötzingen ) is a commune with 578 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district Mulhouse, on the Canton Sierentz and community association Pays de Sierentz.

Geography

The municipality is located in Kœtzingue Sundgau, about halfway between Mulhouse and Basel. The center describes a rectangle whose center remained undeveloped. In this district, called Tiefend, used to be a fountain at the Mühlbach, which supplied the inhabitants with drinking water and livestock watering dined. Most of the 5.14 km ² municipal area is used for agriculture, tree-lined areas of together about 30 acres can be found just to the north (interior wood) and south of the community.

Neighboring communities of Kœtzingue are Schlierbach in the north, Geispitzen in the northeast, Waltenheim in the east, Magstatt -le- Bas in the southeast, Magstatt -le-Haut in the south, Zaessingue the southwest, Rantzwiller in the West as well as stone Brunn -le- Bas in the northwest.

History

As early as the Neolithic period, the area was inhabited by Kœtzingue. Through the town, the Roman road from Mandeure pulled the Doubs after Kembs on the Rhine.

The name of the village changed in the writing several times. About Cozingen, Chozingen and Koezingen ( 1297 ) was 1510 Kozingen - Kozen.

Kœtzingue belonged to the lords of soldiers and the chapter Inter colles ( between the hills ) of the Bishopric of Basel.

At the beginning of the 19th century, the 1000 -acre district was Gutzwiller southwest of the core site to the municipality Kœtzingue. In 1871 there were still 71 in Kœtzingue farms with less than five hectares of land.

Attractions

The Church of St. Leogegar ( Saint -Léger ) was built in 1862. The stones come from a nearby quarry, only the cornerstones and the stones of the church tower were broken up in ten kilometers away Emlingen. The transport of the stones took over the inhabitants voluntarily. The facilities of the church include a Pietà of the 16th century, a baptismal font and a Rinckenbach organ from 1885.
