Roger Wicker

Roger Frederick Wicker ( born July 5, 1951 in Pontotoc, Pontotoc County, Mississippi) is an American politician ( Republican). From 1995 to 2007 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States since December 2007, he is a U.S. Senator for the State of Mississippi.

Early life

Roger Wicker graduated in 1969 in his hometown of Pontotoc High School and graduated in 1973 Bachelor degree at the University of Mississippi. He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. 1975 Wicker gained his Juris Doctor at the same university. From 1976 to 1980 he served as an officer in the Air Force and was thereafter to 2003 reserve officer.

Political career

In 1980, Wicker began on the staff of Congressman and later U.S. Senator Trent Lott to work; to 1982, he worked in the United States House Committee on Rules. Wicker then settled in Tupelo, where he first worked as a judge. From 1984 to 1987 he served in Lee County as a public defender. From 1988 to 1994 Wicker was elected to the Senate from Mississippi and was a candidate in 1995, after the resignation of Congressman Jamie Lloyd Whitten, successfully as a Republican for a seat in the U.S. Congress.
