Geography

The community Thiéfosse in the Vosges is located 15 kilometers from Remiremont, in the southeast of Lorraine.

The 7.62 km ² large municipality of Thiéfosse includes a part of the middle Moselottetales, the valley of the east flowing Ruisseau du Droit de Thiéfosse as well as the flanking mountain areas that reach 800 meters in the east, to the southwest up to 890 meters above the sea. The 786 -meter-high saddle of the Col du Xiard leads to the west in the Moselle Valley and pedestrians and cyclists only. The Moselottetal narrows at the border to the municipality of Basse -sur -le- Rupt to a ravine ( Gorges du Crosery ).

The 430 meter high valley floor is not suitable for farming, so pastoralism prevails. Almost half of its territory is occupied by the forest Forêt Domaniale de Longegoutte, but it is interrupted by numerous farmsteads and pastures.

At Thiéfosse heard the north of the core site subsequent district of Les Mainqueyon.

Neighboring communities of Thiéfosse are Basse -sur -le- Rupt in the north, Saulxures -sur -Moselotte the east and south, Rupt -sur -Moselle to the southwest, Vecoux in the west and Vagney in the northwest.

History

The first part of the borough's name comes from a person Theotharius; fosse is the French term for digging. The name evolved from animal Fosse ( 1433, first mention) about Thiefot ( 1656) to the present Thiéfosse.

1701, the first chapel was built in the place. The then about 500 inhabitants, the suburb of Ban de Vagney belonged to the parish Vagney. From 1795 Thiéfosse had its own pastor. The chapel was extended in 1820 to a bell tower and in 1851 the church was enlarged. 1854, the conversion was complete, so that in 2004 the 150th anniversary of the Catholic Church was celebrated.

After the French Revolution Thiéfosse remained at first Vagney. With the goal of becoming an independent municipality, the citizens filed a petition in 1818. 17 years later, the independence was achieved.

Thiéfosse grew like many communities in the Vosges in 1820 rapidly when the first spinning and weaving mills were established. The long tradition of textile industry ended in 2005 with the closure of the last textile company in place.
