Casagiove

Casagiove is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 13,769 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Caserta in Campania. Casagiove is located about 1 km west of Caserta and about 25 kilometers north of Naples.

History

The settlement is located in the territory of the former Greek colonies in Campania. In Punic War with Rome Hannibal rested for a few weeks on the mountain before Casagiove. The place name means house of Jupiter. Through the town also leads the Via Appia. On the Tabula Peutingeriana listed at the site of the present Casagioves a place called Iovis Tifatinus. In the early 19th century, the present-day town was formed by the merger of the municipalities Casanova and Coccagna.

Traffic

Casagiove is with a connection point on the Autostrada A4. The nearest railway station is located in Caserta and in Santa Maria Capua Vetere.
