Vairano Patenora

Vairano Patenora is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 6596 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Caserta in Campania. The municipality is situated approximately 33 kilometers north-northwest of Caserta. North flows the Volturno.

History

While the area has been settled as early as the Paleolithic period, the Osker first settled here. In the Middle Ages the Lombards were the ruler of the area at the time between the 6th and 9th centuries. 1191 the area around Vairano was transferred to the monastery of Monte Cassino. In 1461, the castle was completely destroyed by the army commander Marino Marzano.

Traffic

Through the community lead the Strada Statale 372 Telesina and the Strada Statale 608 di Teano. From here, the Strada Statale 85 Venafrana begins after Pescolanciano. Through the village the route of the high-speed railway route from Rome to Naples runs. Together with the neighboring municipality of Caianello is the terminus for the route of Isernia.
