Bellona, Campania

Bellona is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 5864 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Caserta in Campania. The community is located about 12 kilometers northwest of Caserta, about 35 kilometers north of Naples, in the Terra di Lavoro to the Monti Trebulani. The southern boundary of the municipality is the Volturno.

History

On the hill of Palombara the settlement model SICOPOLIS arose in the 9th century AD. It lay between the district Triflisco and the neighboring municipality of Capua. A few years later the settlement was destroyed by the Saracens. The convent of Bellona was founded in 1099 with the Kapellenbau Sancta Jerusalem on Mount Rageto.
