Alife, Campania

Alife is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 7633 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Caserta in Campania. It is part of the Comunità Montana del Matese. The municipality is situated approximately 27 km north of Caserta, about 55 kilometers north-east of Naples on the Volturno. North of Alife is the Parco Regionale del Matese.

History

Located in the historic area of ​​Samnium, today's city has its roots in the time of the Samnites and the Osker - in the 4th century BC. After the Samnite Wars, the town was built as oppidum again.
