Alvignano

Alvignano is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 4878 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Caserta in Campania. The municipality is situated approximately 20 kilometers north of Caserta in the Monti Trebulani. The northern boundary of the municipality is the Volturno.

History

The name of the village goes back to the Roman Marcus Aulus Albino, who settled here near the ancient city Cubulteria. Cubulteria, which lay in what is now the municipality, is one of the major archaeological excavation equipment in Campania. From the late Middle Ages comes the Aragonese castle.

Traffic

Through the community, the Strada Statale 372 Telesina leads from Caianello direction Benevento. The former Strada Statale 158 della Valle del Volturno is here downgraded to provincial road. On the railway line from Santa Maria Capua Vetere after Piedimonte Matese is next to the station in Alvignano still in the small town of Villa Ortensia another station in the community.
