Castel Morrone

Castel Morrone is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 3888 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Caserta in Campania. The community is located about 5.5 kilometers north-east of Caserta. The northwestern boundary of the municipality is the Volturno.

History

The community was called up to the Unification of Italy nor Morrone in Terra di Lavora. Today's namesake of the village is the castle ruins above the town on the so-called Monte Castello.

Excavations suggest that here already about 216 a Punic fortification was built under Hannibal BC.
