Claudia Nystad
Claudia Nystad, born Kuenzel ( born 1 February 1978 in Zschopau, GDR ) is a German cross country skier and double Olympic champion who competed for the WSC Erzgebirge Oberwiesenthal. She is sporting a soldier in the army. With five medals at Olympics and World Championships Nystad is next Evi Sachenbacher floor the most successful German cross-country skier of the present.

Life
In the Saxon Erzgebirge grew up, Nystad was already in kindergarten for the first time on cross-country skis. At the age of 12, she moved to the Children's and Youth Sports School Oberwiesenthal, where in 1996 the Abitur. After high school she was in the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr in Frankenberg / Sa. added, it belongs to the present.
Since 27 May 2005, she is married to the former Norwegian cross country skier Trond Nystad. Career
Junior time and initial success (1997-2001)
Your first international assignment had Nystad in December 1997, the Continental Cup competition in the French Argentière. When the German victory over Ramona Roth 5 km freestyle she finished in 13th place. Most successful years (2002-2005)
The Olympia 2001/02 season began with Nystad rather declining results. In distance competitions, they are usually placed far away from the World Cup points. And also in sprint competitions they could not repeat the good results of the past season. At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City about 15 km Freestyle ( mass start ) she lost early on the connection and finished 26th in the pursuit competition she gave in the classic distance at No. 55 prospect on laid back. With third place in the World Cup competitions in Beitostølen, in Dobbiaco and in Ramsau am Dachstein Nystad was in season 2003/ 04 that they heard in distance competitions for world leaders. At the World Cup in the Estonian Otepaeae the hitherto known as freestyle specialist sports soldier also surprised in the classical technique. Second Olympic victory after ups and downs ( 2006-2010 )
Also in the Olympic season 2005/ 06 you get eight top - ten finishes, including five podium finishes. The 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin began with the classic places 17 and 18 in the Pursuit competition and about 10 km but for Nystad disappointing. At the beginning of the season 2006/ 07 she moved with her husband, Trond Nystad to Oberhof, so Nystad was first officially trained by her husband. At the Olympic Games 2010 in Vancouver Nystad was together with Evi Sachenbacher - floor Olympic gold medalist in the team sprint and won together with Katrin Zeller, Evi Sachenbacher floor and Miriam Gössner in the relay silver. Comeback ( since 2013)
In March 2013 Nystad announced her comeback, she played in the World Cup opener in Kuusamo November 29, 2013. At the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014, she won the bronze medal with the German relay.
