Dan V. Stephens

Dan Voorhees Stephens (* November 4, 1868 in Bloomington, Indiana, † January 13, 1939 in Fremont, Nebraska ) was an American politician. Between 1911 and 1919 he represented the third electoral district of the state of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Dan Stephens attended the public schools of his home and then the Valparaiso College. Since 1887 he has been resident in Fremont, where he taught as a teacher and studied law. Between 1890 and 1894 he had in Dodge County Superintendent of Schools as the supervision of the schools in this district. At the time he wrote themselves a few books on the subject of education. In addition to these activities Stephens worked also in other areas. He was engaged in farming, in publishing, in banking and in the manufacturing industry. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party, whose Democratic National Convention he attended in 1904, 1908, 1920, 1924 and 1932 as a delegate.

After the death of Congressman James P. Latta Dan Stephens won the by-election became necessary to the U.S. House of Representatives. Since he also chose the following three regular congressional elections for himself, he could implement his mandate in Congress between November 7, 1911 to March 3, 1919. In 1918, he failed but the Republicans Robert E. Evans. After the end of his time in Congress Stephens took his former business activities in Nebraska again. From 1923 to 1926 he was a member of the school board of that State.
