William Laury Greene

William Laury Greene ( * October 3, 1849 in Ireland, Pike County, Indiana, † March 11, 1899 in Omaha, Nebraska ) was an American politician. Between 1897 and 1899 he represented the sixth electoral district of the state of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Even as a child moved with his parents William Greene in the Dubois County, Indiana. There he attended the public schools. After his schooling, he was initially even worked as a teacher before he began studying law. After his successful examinations were performed in 1876 and his admission to the bar he began in Bloomington to work in his new profession. 1883 Greene moved to Kearney, Nebraska, where he also worked as a lawyer. Politically, he was a member of the short-lived Populist Party. In 1893 he ran unsuccessfully as a candidate of that party for the U.S. Senate. Then he was between 1895-1897 Judge in the twelfth judicial district of Nebraska.

In the congressional elections of 1896 Greene was selected in the sixth district of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives. There he took over from the March 4, 1897 Omer Madison Kem. In the elections of 1898 Greene was confirmed in office. The new legislative session began on March 4, 1899, just days before Greene's death on March 11. Its seat then fell after the election due to his party colleague William Neville. William Greene was buried in Kearney.
