Pike County (Indiana)

Pike County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Petersburg.

Geography

The County is located in southwestern Indiana, is in the west about 35 miles from Illinois, located in the south about 60 miles from Kentucky and has an area of 883 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Daviess County, Dubois County, Warrick County, Gibson County and Knox County.

History

Pike County was formed on December 21, 1816 from parts of Gibson County and Perry County. It was named for Zebulon Pike, an explorer who discovered Pikes Peak.
