Wayne County (Indiana)

Wayne County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Richmond.

Geography

The County is located in the east of Indiana, bordering Ohio and has an area of ​​1047 square kilometers, of which two square miles are water. It borders in Indiana clockwise to the following counties: Randolph County, Union County, Fayette County, Henry County.

History

Wayne County was formed on November 27, 1810 from parts of Clark County and Dearborn County. It was named after Anthony Wayne, a general and victor of the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794 during the American Revolutionary War. Likewise, he was known as a commander in the Northwest Indian War.

The first was the county seat in Salisbury, a now defunct town. Later it was Centerville, before it was Richmond.
